Mō te tūrangi mahi – About the role

The Kaitaiohi will provide around the clock day-to-day care, for our rangatahi who for whatever reason are disconnected from their whānau. Delivering planned programmes and guidance services for rangatahi from the safety of the residential setting -Whare Tiaki.
This is not your typical 9-5 job. You will be part of a team required to work a 12-hour shift rotation, including night shift, rostered weekends and public holidays.

Mōu – About you

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Demonstrate the cultural intelligence necessary to understand whānau situations and build relationships of trust and confidence.
  • Have empathy and patience, demonstrate resilience, critical thinking, and problem-solving techniques
  • Have a working knowledge of iwi, hapū and whānau ki Te Tau Ihu ō Te Waka ā Maui.
  • Have a strong commitment to working in partnership within Te Tiriti ō Waitangi framework.
  • Possess a good level of understanding of Tikanga Māori and te reo Māori is preferred
  • Bring sound judgement, time management and organisational skills.
  • Have established community connections and knowledge of local networks, and an understanding of social and economic issues facing whānau.
  • Have a reasonable level of fitness to work with Taiohi/Rangatahi in scheduled programmes and recreational activities as required.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and report writing ability
  • Be motivated and flexible
  • Have a clean full driver’s license
  • Have a tertiary qualification or the equivalent work history and experience in Kaupapa Māori/Health/Social work/Youth work etc.
