Layout of Kaakati l Sleeping & big room

Pae Tapu

The Pae Tapu (where oratory & waiata kinaki are delivered) is more usually set up inside Kaakati near the front of the whare. There is accommodated seating on both sides for Manuhiri & Tangata Whenua. Where there are unexpected large visitor numbers, Manuhiri will be guided down the right-side of the whare to be seated in line with the Pae Tapu being maintained during this ritual.

It is the tikanga of Whakatū Marae that manaakitanga is extended at all times. This is even in times of unsurety we must act to the comforts of our Manuhiri whilst maintaining cultural integrity. At the conclusion of Pōwhiri groups/persons staying overnight, chairs can be moved to the side and stacked tidily to allow room for mattresses or working spaces.

Mattresses

A number of mattresses will be laid out with linen and pillows. Where more bedding and linen is required they can be accessed from the laundry room, next to the women’s toilets on the back left-side of Kaakati. At the conclusion of a booking, please have used linen put together in one sheet and left at the top end of the whare. Mattresses can also be stacked to the side where they will be placed out after cleaning. Any extra mattresses to be returned to the mattress room please.

Please do not allow members of your group to sleep in the mattress/laundry room. This can become a hazard and safety issue and therefore we restrict this.

Layout of Mauriora l Dining room

Tables

There are twenty 8-seater tables that are set up in 4 rows of 3 tables lined up vertically. We use a general layout for the tables and work with them accordingly. At the beginning of each booking a person/groups should find the tables set out in this manner. If the tables are moved in any way, we ask that they are returned as you found them for departing. Table cloths also accompany the tables that are erected for use. Please note we do leave excess tables out for working spaces and presentations. Again if these are moved, please do return to their original place.

We do have a locked storage room with extra tables and kitchen resources are stored. In situations where more tables and cloths are required, please be sure to indicate clear numbers on your booking form otherwise last minute notice may result in inaccessibility.

Chairs

Chairs are set out with tables. We also leave excess chairs to the side of Mauriora to accommodate working spaces or meetings. At the end of a booking, where any chairs have been moved to accommodate your booking needs, please return to their original places.

Stage parts

In Mauriora Whakatū marae has a stage consisting of 9 parts. It is usually set up at the north-end of Mauriora or packed to the side. This is available for your use. As with the other areas, please ensure that at the end of your booking stage parts are returned to their original place. (These are currently stored over by the Rangikapua Building)
