Whakatū Marae provides comprehensive Whānau Ora services, supporting tamariki, rangatahi and their whānau, living within the Nelson, Tasman districts. Over the years, Whakatū Marae has been successful in expanding the services provided to, whānau and the community.

Mō te tūrangi mahi – About the role
The role of the Kaiwhakatere Hauora is to support whānau through their journey to a smoke free and vape free healthier lifestyle. By connecting and engaging them in Te Ao Māori activities such as mau rākau, kapa haka, waka ama and any other physical activities will play a large part in this positive transformation. Providing a high degree of consistency in behaviour and act as a clear role model for whānau will help them generate their confidence and commitment to well-being.
Home base is the Marae but at times you may be required to work off site with external agencies and community partners at various locations to deliver some of these services. You will require a full clean driver’s license to deliver this fixed term part time (minimum of 25 hours per week) role.
Mōu – About you
Our ideal candidate will:
- Demonstrate the cultural intelligence necessary to understand whānau situations and build relationships of trust and confidence.
- Able to walk the talk and lead by example
- Have empathy and patience, demonstrate resilience, critical thinking, and problem-solving technique
- Has experience in working in a Kaupapa Māori service delivery environment
- Possess a good level of understanding of Tikanga Māori and te reo Māori is preferred
- Bring sound judgement, time management and organisational skills.
- Have established community connections and knowledge of local networks, and an understanding of social and economic issues facing whānau.
- Have a reasonable level of fitness to work with whānau in scheduled programmes and recreational activities as required.
- Be motivated and flexible in terms of location and hours
- Have experience in waka ama, ki o rahi, mau rākau and or kapa haka.
- Have a commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle that is smokefree and vape free
This role would suit someone who is committed to providing better outcomes for our whānau now and for generations to come. Someone who can demonstrate the benefits of physical activity to improve wellbeing would see you do well in this role as well as someone who can be patient and empathetic to some of the barriers our whānau face to achieve their aspirations.
